On our own behalf

Prof. Dr. Susanne Menzel-Riedl, President of Osnabrück University, will be presented to the electoral assembly of Münster University as the only candidate for the office of Rector of Münster University. On November 28, the electoral body will vote on the successor to the current Rector Prof. Dr. Johannes Wessels. The term of office of the new Rectorate begins on October 1, 2026.

When chimpanzees converse with each other

Observations by scientists from Osnabrück University in Uganda show that chimpanzee mothers interact with their young in a rhythmic way - almost like a human conversation.

Annual conference of the Cooperation Center Universities and Trade Unions

Under the motto "Investing in the future. A balancing act for a changing society", the Cooperation Center invites you to its conference in the castle hall. At the same time, it is celebrating its 30th anniversary!

Great honor: "Deutschland"-Scholarships awarded

56 students received a "Deutschland"-Scholarship in the winter semester 2025/26. The Osnabrück University supports particularly talented and committed students. The program is funded by the federal government and private sponsors.

Osnabrück University, founded in 1974, has earned an outstanding reputation in research and teaching. Of particular importance: its international orientation and visibility. Around 14,000 students benefit from the "research-based learning" approach. And last but not least, business and university mutually stimulate each other through transfer services.

No Room for Hate and Violence!

The protection of freedom of expression, artistic freedom, freedom of the press and academic freedom are among the fundamental and inalienable rights of our Basic Law. Osnabrück University (UOS) emphasizes the special responsibility associated with these fundamental rights in the opening article of its constitution: Osnabrück University "fulfils its tasks in freedom, within the framework of its self-administration and obligation towards human rights, the environment and the peaceful and civil development of humanity". This obligation applies to all areas of research and teaching - and to every member of our university.
